Trained as a sociologist, my current project is a historical-sociological analysis of religious-ethical voluntary associations’ emergence in Danish society and engagement in social questions. Theoretically, the overall inspiration for the project is found in action theory (esp. Hans Joas) and the sociology of religion, and engages with research on voluntarism, welfare regimes and social citizenship. Empirically, my research interest is in the role of ethics in society: The emergence of value commitments, the role of experience and interpretation in these, the possibility of ethics in state and market dominated societies, and the role of ethically motivated associations and movements for inclusion in society.
